About PEG-20 Sorbitan Oleate
PEG-20 Sorbitan Oleate is an ethoxylated sorbitan monoester of oleic acid with an average of 20 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 20 indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. Within the same base structure, changing this number can affect water dispersibility as well as the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and reduce surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
