PEG-20 Sorbitan Isostearate is an ethoxylated sorbitan monoester of isostearic acid, with an average of 20 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 20 in the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. With the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formulation. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to reduce surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
