About PEG-20 Laurate

PEG-20 Laurate is the polyethylene glycol ester of lauric acid.[1] The number 20 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number can alter water compatibility and the formula's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
