PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate is a triester of a polyethylene glycol ether of glycerin and isostearic acid.[1] The number 20 in the name represents the average number of ethylene oxide units added. For the same base structure, changing this number may also change the degree to which it mixes with water and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, and to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[2]
