PEG-12 Dimethicone is a polyethylene glycol derivative of dimethicone composed of an average of 12 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 12 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the formulation's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce hair tangling and rough feel to leave hair smoothly groomed and to leave the skin surface soft and smooth.[2]
