Moroccan Lava Clay is a type of smectite clay mined in Morocco.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to physically remove deposits from the surface of the skin or teeth, absorb liquids such as water or oil in formulas, and increase formula volume and adjust the amount of solids. It is also used to help keep emulsions of water and oil from separating easily, reduce light transmission so the contents appear less translucent, and control viscosity and flow properties.[2] [2]
