About Methyl Benzoate

Methyl Benzoate is an ester of methanol and benzoic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to add fragrance to products or adjust the characteristic odor of raw materials, slow deterioration during storage by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in products, and leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth.[3] It is also used to dissolve other ingredients and create a uniform formulation.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.5% (based on acid content).[2]
