Methoxy PEG/PPG-25/4 Dimethicone is the methyl ether of an alkoxylated derivative of dimethicone containing 4 moles of propylene oxide and 25 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 25 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. Depending on this number and the type of fatty component attached, oil miscibility and application feel may vary. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to help prevent the emulsified water-and-oil state from separating easily.[2]
