About Mea-Salicylate

Mea-Salicylate is the monoethanolamine salt of salicylic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in products and delay deterioration during storage.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.5% (based on acid content).[2] However, it cannot be used in products for children under 3 years of age.[2] In Europe, the secondary amine content of the finished product is limited to a maximum of 0.5%, and the nitrosamine content must not exceed 50 μg/kg.[2]
