About Mea-Benzoate
MEA-Benzoate is the salt of monoethanolamine and benzoic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in a product and slow deterioration during storage.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted up to 0.5% (expressed as acid).[2] The secondary amine content of the finished product is also limited to a maximum of 0.5%, and the nitrosamine content must not exceed 50 μg/kg.[2]
