About Lithium Hydroxide

Lithium Hydroxide is an inorganic base.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to buffer the formula so its acidity does not change sharply and to help alter the shape of hair in products that create waves or straighten hair.[4] In Europe, it may be used in hair-straightening products at up to 2% for general use and up to 4.5% for professional use. For pH adjustment in depilatories, the pH must be below 12.7; for other pH-adjustment uses in rinse-off products, it must be below pH 11.[2] It is described as a white liquid with a strong odor, so the order and temperature used when mixing it with other liquid raw materials affect the uniformity of the finished product.[3]
