About Laureth-5
Laureth-5 is a polyethylene glycol ether of lauryl alcohol with an average n value of 5.[1] The number 5 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between the water-attracting and lipid-attracting portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
