About Laureth-38

Laureth-38 is the polyethylene glycol ether of lauryl alcohol, primarily with an average n value of 38.[1] The number 38 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. This changes the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, and to reduce surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
