About Laureth-23
Laureth-23 is the polyethylene glycol ether of lauryl alcohol.[1] The number 23 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving parts, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly blended, and lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
