About Glyoxal

Glyoxal is an aliphatic dialdehyde.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit microbial growth and to add fragrance to a product or adjust the ingredient's characteristic odor.[4] In Europe, it may be used at up to 100 mg/kg in finished cosmetic products.[2] It is described as a pale yellow crystal, so in the solid state it is important to dissolve it first or disperse it evenly to prevent clumping in the formulation.[3]
