About Disodium Oleth-3 Sulfosuccinate

Disodium Oleth-3 Sulfosuccinate is the disodium salt of the oleth-3 half ester of sulfosuccinic acid.[1] The number 3 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, increase the amount of foam and help it last longer, and help water-insoluble ingredients disperse more evenly in the water phase.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
