About Disodium Laureth-9 Sulfosuccinate

Disodium Laureth-9 Sulfosuccinate is the disodium salt of the ethoxylated lauryl alcohol half ester of sulfosuccinic acid.[1] The number 9 at the end of the name refers to the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, creating differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help wash away sebum and impurities with water, increase the amount of foam and help it last longer, and help water-insoluble ingredients disperse more evenly in the water phase.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
