About Disodium Cocamido PEG-3 Sulfosuccinate
Disodium Cocamido PEG-3 Sulfosuccinate is the disodium salt of the monococamide of the PEG-3 half ester of sulfosuccinic acid.[1] The number 3 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same basic structure, changing this number may also change water miscibility and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to help rinse sebum and impurities away with water, increase the amount of foam and help it last longer, and form foam during use.[2] It is also used to reduce tangling and roughness in hair for easier smoothing, help water-insoluble ingredients disperse more evenly in the water phase, and lower surface tension so raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
