About Dimethyl Oxalate

Dimethyl Oxalate is a diester of methyl alcohol and oxalic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to bind metal ions and reduce their effects on color, scent, and formulation stability; to add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become excessively hard; and to dissolve other raw materials to create a uniform formulation.[3] In Europe, it may be used at up to 5% in finished hair products.[2]
