Dimethicone PEG-7 Phosphate is a partial ester of phosphoric acid and a dimethicone derivative with an average of 7 moles of ethylene oxide. The number 7 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; with the same base structure, changing this number can alter water compatibility and the viscosity and spreadability of the formula.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
