About Diethyl Phthalate
Diethyl Phthalate is an aromatic diester of ethyl alcohol and phthalic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to alter the taste or smell of an ingredient so it is difficult to ingest, to form a thin film on the skin, hair, and nail surfaces after application, and to reduce tangling and rough feel in hair for smoother grooming.[2] It is also used to keep the characteristic smell or taste of raw materials from becoming too noticeable, to add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become excessively rigid, and to dissolve other ingredients and create a uniform formula.[2]
