Dicapryl succinate is an ester combining parts derived from an acid and an alcohol.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, to form a thin film on the surface of the skin, hair, or nails after application, and to reduce tangling and roughness in hair for a smoother finish.[2] It is also used to leave nails smooth and flexible, add flexibility so that films or polymer layers do not become excessively hard, and leave the skin's surface feeling soft and smooth.[2]
