About Dibutyl Oxalate
Dibutyl Oxalate is a diester of butyl alcohol and oxalic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to bind metal ions and reduce their effects on color, scent, and formula stability, reduce hair tangling and a rough feel to leave hair smooth, and add flexibility so films or polymer layers do not become excessively rigid.[3] It is also used to dissolve other ingredients to create a uniform formula.[3] In Europe, it may be used at up to 5% in finished hair products.[2]
