About Datem
Datem is the diacetyl tartaric acid ester of fatty acid mono- and diglycerides.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly blended, and reduce tangling and roughness in hair for smooth conditioning.[2] It is also used to leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
