About Clay

Clay is a group of phyllosilicate minerals formed through the chemical and physical weathering of rock.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to absorb liquids in the formula, such as water or oil; to help formula ingredients bind together and maintain their form; and to increase formula volume and adjust the amount of solids. It is also used to leave the skin surface soft and smooth and to control the viscosity and flow of the formula.[2] It consists of varying amounts of hydrated silica and alumina and has a particle size smaller than 2 micrometers.[1] [2] [1]
