About Chitin
Chitin is a polysaccharide derived from the exoskeletons of marine invertebrates.[1] It consists mainly of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues. In cosmetics, it is used to physically remove deposits from the surface of the skin or teeth, and to increase the volume of a formula and adjust its solids content.[2]
