About Ceteareth-9
Ceteareth-9 is the polyethylene glycol ether of cetearyl alcohol, where R is a mixture of alkyl groups derived from cetyl and stearyl alcohol.[1] The number 9 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. It changes the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving portions, affecting cleansing power, emulsification, and feel during use. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
