About Ceteareth-60
Ceteareth-60 is a polyethylene glycol ether of cetearyl alcohol, where R is a mixture of alkyl groups derived from cetyl and stearyl alcohol.[1] The number 60 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added. It changes the balance between the water-affine and oil-affine portions, affecting cleansing ability, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
