About Ceteareth-50
Ceteareth-50 is the polyethylene glycol ether of cetearyl alcohol.[1] The number 50 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. By changing the balance between the water-affine and oil-affine portions, it creates differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water; to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly blended; and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
