About Ceteareth-5
Ceteareth-5 is the polyethylene glycol ether of cetearyl alcohol.[1] The number 5 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; it changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing ability, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
