About Ceteareth-28
Ceteareth-28 is the polyethylene glycol ether of cetearyl alcohol, where R is a mixture of alkyl groups derived from cetyl and stearyl alcohols.[1] The number 28 at the end of the name refers to the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing ability, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
