Carboxymethyl Dextran is a carboxymethyl derivative of dextran.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to increase the volume of a formula and adjust the amount of solids, to form a thin film on the surface of the skin, hair, or nails after application, and to give liquid formulas a gel-like form and viscosity.[2] It is also used to control the viscosity and flow of a formula.[2]
