Caproic Acid is an aliphatic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to keep the ingredient's characteristic odor or taste from becoming too pronounced.[2] It is also used to add fragrance to a product or adjust the ingredient's characteristic odor, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
