About Calcium Carbonate
Calcium carbonate is an inorganic salt.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to physically remove deposits from the skin or tooth surface, buffer the formula so its acidity does not change abruptly, increase the formula’s bulk, and control the amount of solids.[4] It is also used to reduce light transmission so the contents appear less visible, and to keep the teeth and mouth clean and comfortable.[4] In Europe, it may be used to color cosmetics.[2] It is described as a colorless powder with no distinct odor, so checking first whether it dissolves better in water or oil and then dissolving or dispersing it in the appropriate phase helps create a uniform formula.[3]
