C9-11 Pareth-6 is a polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic mixture of C9-11 fatty alcohols with an average of 6 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 6 at the end of the name refers to the average number of added ethylene oxide units, which changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, affecting cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and sensory feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly combined, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
