C9-11 Pareth-3 is the polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic C9-11 fatty alcohol mixture with an average of 3 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 3 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between water-loving and fat-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing ability, emulsifying ability, and sensory feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
