It changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing performance, emulsifying ability, and sensory feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities be rinsed away with water, create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
