About C20-40 Pareth-40
C20-40 Pareth-40 is a polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic C20-40 alcohol mixture containing an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 40 at the end of the name refers to the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, creating differences in cleansing and emulsifying ability and in use feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
