About C12-14 Sec-Pareth-40
C12-14 Sec-Pareth-40 is a polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic secondary C12-14 alcohol mixture with an average ethoxylation value of 40 moles.[1] The number 40 at the end of the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added; it changes the balance between water-attracting and oil-attracting portions, producing differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, help keep those emulsions from separating readily, and lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
