About C12-14 Sec-Pareth-20
C12-14 Sec-Pareth-20 is the polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic mixture of secondary C12-14 alcohols with an average ethoxylation value of 20 moles.[1] The number 20 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added, changing the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions and creating differences in cleansing power, emulsification, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, to help keep the emulsified mixture of water and oil from separating easily, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
