C12-14 Sec-Alketh-9 is a polyethylene glycol ester of a mixture of synthetic C12-14 secondary alcohols with an average ethoxylation value of 9.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and help prevent the emulsified water-and-oil state from separating easily.[2]
