C12-14 Sec-Alketh-40 is a polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic secondary C12-14 alcohol mixture with an average ethoxylation value of 40 moles.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly; create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly combined; and help keep these emulsions from separating readily.[2]
