C12-14 Pareth-12 is a polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic mixture of C12-14 alcohols with an average of 12 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 12 at the end of the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added, changing the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions and creating differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
