C12-13 Pareth-6 is a polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic C12-13 fatty alcohol mixture with an average of 6 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 6 at the end of the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added, changing the balance between water-attracting and oil-attracting parts and thereby affecting cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and sensory feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
