C12-13 Pareth-10 is the polyethylene glycol ether of a synthetic C12-13 alcohol mixture with an average of 10 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 10 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; it changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so that raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
