About Butyl Benzoate
Butyl Benzoate is an ester of butyl alcohol and benzoic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to keep the characteristic odor or taste of raw materials from becoming too pronounced and to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in products, slowing deterioration during storage.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.5% (based on acid content).[2]
