About Bis-PEG/PPG-16/16 PEG/PPG-16/16 Dimethicone
Bis-PEG/PPG-16/16 PEG/PPG-16/16 Dimethicone is a derivative of dimethicone containing alkoxylated side chains with an average of 16 moles of ethylene oxide and 16 moles of propylene oxide, with terminal groups substituted by an average of 16 moles of ethylene oxide and 16 moles of propylene oxide.[1] The number 16 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. Depending on this number and the type of fatty component attached to it, its compatibility with oils and application feel may vary. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and leave the skinโs surface feeling soft and smooth.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
