About Bis-PEG-8 Dimethicone
Bis-PEG-8 Dimethicone is dimethicone with terminal groups substituted by an average of 8 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] The number 8 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility as well as the viscosity and spreadability of the formula. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce hair tangling and rough texture for smooth manageability, add flexibility so that films or polymer layers do not become excessively rigid, and leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so that raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
