About Ammonium Hydroxide

Ammonium Hydroxide is an inorganic base.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to buffer the formula so its acidity does not change abruptly and to alter the taste or odor of the raw material so it is difficult to ingest.[4] In Europe, it may be used at up to 6% based on ammonia content. Above 2%, labeling indicating that ammonia is present is required.[2] It is described as colorless, so the order of addition and mixing method are determined according to the verified physical properties when incorporating it into a formula.[3]
