About Agar

Agar is a dried hydrophilic, gelatinous polygalactoside obtained from various Gelidium species or related algae.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help formulation ingredients bind together and maintain their shape, prevent the inherent odor or taste of raw materials from becoming overly noticeable, and adjust the formulation’s viscosity and flow. It is described as a white to pale yellow powder with a characteristic odor, so when it is in solid form, it is important to dissolve or evenly disperse it first to prevent clumping in the formulation.[2][3]
